What is a HID card?

What is a HID card?

A HID (Human Interface Device) card is a proximity card that uses RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology to enable access control, employee identification, and other applications. These cards, similar to credit cards in size and appearance, are used for physical security and identity verification.

How HID Cards Work:
  • RFID Technology: HID cards typically contain an RFID chip and an antenna.
  • Communication: When the card is held near an access card reader, the antenna on the card communicates with the reader using radio waves.
  • Authentication: The reader decodes the information from the card and determines whether to grant or deny access.
  • Common Uses of HID Cards:
    • Access Control: Used to control entry into buildings, rooms, or other areas.
    • Employee ID: Used for identification and tracking within organizations.
    • Public Transportation: Used for payment and access on certain transit systems.
    • Other Applications: Can be used for various other applications like time and attendance, and cashless payment systems.
